How can I describe the Holmes Road church? Where should I begin? I can share facts—Holmes Road was our home and ministry for almost a dozen years, the church is where our boys grew up, the church where our ministry matured. But facts do not tell the story.
Holmes Road is our family; it will always be part of us. When we think about Holmes Road, we think about people. We think about love and relationships, students, life-long friendships, unique experiences, faithful people, acceptance and belonging. Together we learned to depend on God, and God richly blessed our ministry with the church.
Holmes Road is unique, the potential for the future limitless, the church culture one-of-a-kind, the possibilities endless. It is not often that one still has so many special relationships and friends two decades later. Every time we visit, Holmes Road reminds us that “you can go home.”

It has been said that “the most segregated hour in the United States is on a Sunday morning when the church meets.” This may be true for a lot of churches in our country, but it is certainly not true for the Church of Christ at Holmes Road, Michigan. The atmosphere and genuine nature of integration, diversity, and plain Christian and community love clearly makes this congregation unique.
My work with this church was one of the most memorable and fulfilling experiences I have had in ministry. The leadership was highly supportive of their minister, and the congregation was open to being served and had a great spirit of Christ-like servanthood.
I still maintain a very healthy relationship with the leadership and the members of this church.

In January of 2005, I moved to Lansing, Michigan, to attend Cooley Law School. I had never been away from home before, and didn’t know anyone in the entire state of Michigan! I remember the first Sunday morning I attended Holmes Road as if it was yesterday. Even though I had never met any of the people there, they immediately made me feel welcomed and wanted.
I quickly formed deep, meaningful relationships with the members of the Holmes Road Church of Christ. In almost no time, Holmes Road became my home away from home. The congregation certainly cherishes its college and graduate students, and takes great care of them.
As important and effective as my legal education has proven to be, my life education from Holmes Road has been even more important and more effective. While there, I learned how to show the love of Jesus to a world of sin.
The saints at Holmes Road Church of Christ are good at putting words into action, and making every person that comes through their doors feel special and loved.

Holmes Road provided an incredible environment to both stay strong and grow as a Christian. The sincere hospitality shown by the members towards college students is among the best in the brotherhood. Had is not been for Holmes Road during my college years, I'm unsure how I could have maintained my spiritual walk.
So, I thank God for this body of believers. I'm still in touch with many of the members and will always consider the Holmes Road Church of Christ a church home away from home.

Holmes Road was great. I came in to MSU knowing I was a Christian, but did not know where to look and to worship. I was lucky enough to meet some great friends that led me to Holmes Road where I found Christ and was Baptized.
The strong family values and morals that I witnessed will always carry on in my life. While I still have much to learn - I can now strongly call myself a Christian and look forward to raise my future family in a similar church setting.

Holmes Road was more than a second home for me. I learned a lot about other cultures and was able to continue my walk in the Lord.
The members and leadership treated me as if they have known me all my life. It was plenty of nights when the leadership opened the church building up for late night baptisms. I thank the Holmes Road church for allowing not only me to become a leader in the kingdom of the Lord, but my strong brothers in Christ also.

The Holmes Road church of Christ encouraged my involvement from the start. The members reached out to my wife and I and made us feel part of the family.
We found a sincere love for God's people as well as an atmosphere welcoming to new faces. I grew in my faith with many of the other college students, my friends. We were afforded regular opportunites for group Bible studies together and evangelism--especially on campus.
Most of all, I will recall with deep appreciation the congregations willingness to support us in our efforts to spread the Lord's Kingdom. I remember the people there at Holmes Road with fond memories and always look forward to my next opportunity to see them once again--forever my church family.
